The Role:

The Goverrnment Funding Associate is a new role developed to support the Center's strategic objectives for increasing visibility, influence and income with governments and multi-lateral organisations. Reporting to the Director of Donor Relations, the associate will provide high level support to the Center's government funding unit and form part of the cross-departmental government funding project team.  The associate will support the management of donor accounts with select bi-lateral and multi-lateral funders across the project cycle. This includes carrying out market analysis, supporting relationships management, tracking funding opportunities, supporting the process from proposal to award, and providing support to funded projects. The associate will also play an important role in coordinating efforts between our European and field based donor engagement and the Center's office in New York.

This position will be based in New York.


  • Maintain records of the Center's relationship with select bi-lateral and multi-lateral agencies, including keeping up to date a list of priority government actors and partner stakeholders.
  • Develop and keep up to date market analysis for select bi-lateral agencies (for example the UK Department for International Development, the Swedish International Development Agency, and Canadian Global Affairs), and stay abreast and help communicate trends in international development funding more broadly.
  • Support a small number of events with government actors and partners aimed at increasing visibility of the Center's technical leadership in reproductive rights
  • Draft correspondence, capability statements, meeting notes and other communications for government actors and partners.
  • Maintain and keep up to date the government funding pipeline, and support decision-making processes about which funding opportunities to position for and how best to leverage Center-wide capability to respond.
  • Lead as part of cross-departmentnal government funding proposal teams, including but not limited to serving as a bid coordinator, writing sections of the proposal such as the capability statement, proof reading technical and financial narratives, reviewing budgets, and supporting necessary recruitment processes.
  • Process new grants and grant modification with bi-lateral and multi-lateral funders, and support in project start up processes, as assigned.
  • Further support grant implementation, as assigned.
  • Work closely with the communication manager and the Center's digital unit to implement the strand of the global communication strategy and media plan that aims to reach international development government and multi-lateral decision makers and influencers
  • Coordinate the dissemination of key documents and publications to government actors and partners.
    • Schedule and document all cross-department government funding team activities, and support in the implementation of the government funding action plan.
    • Provide administrative support to the Government Funding unit

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Strong commitment to the Center's mission, purpose, and values.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 3 years relevant work experience and/or time spent gaining a related Masters degree.
  • Experience working around global health and/or human right issues desiable.  
  • Knowledge of international development funding landscape needed, direct experience with DFID, SIDA or other similar government funder preferred.
  • Strong writing and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in English, with second language such as Spanish or French language desirable.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in recording information.
  • Able to work independently, proactively, and to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
